Sacred Music Ministry at Our Lady of Peace
Do you enjoy singing? Have you been told you sing well? Are you interested in becoming part of a beautiful and meaningful ministry where you can learn music and become a better singer, share your gifts, and serve God and your congregation? If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, please consider being a part of the Our Lady of Peace Sacred Music Ministry. There are several options from which to choose:
CANTORS
Cantors guide and help lead the congregation during Masses and special celebrations with such functions as announcing hymns, and introducing the refrains and singing the verses of Responsorials and Gospel Acclamations (aka Alleluias). Because of the unique leadership functions of cantors, they should be able to read music, and are auditioned and trained. Cantors are scheduled in a rotation with other cantors according to their schedules. Rehearsals are offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm, and recordings are provided a season ahead.
GALLERY CHOIR
The Gallery Choir leads congregational singing during 10:00 a.m. Sunday Masses from Labor Day weekend through Corpus Christi Sunday, as well as during special liturgies throughout the year (e.g. Christmas Eve, Triduum). As part of their service, the Gallery Choir learns weekly Communion anthems in harmony, which are introduced 6 weeks ahead of the Mass during which each anthem is sung. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 pm. We understand that people's schedules and lives can be busy, and attendance at every rehearsal and/or Mass is not required.
RESURRECTION CHOIR
The Resurrection Choir leads congregational singing during funeral Masses and services. Choristers serve during funerals as their schedules allow, and have a standard repertoire of funeral music. Resurrection choristers are asked to arrive 40 minutes prior to funerals.
